Neuromodulators (Botox)
Botox is the gold standard for relaxing fine lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movements. As a well-known injectable neuromodulator, Botox works to temporarily block nerve signals to your facial muscles so they are unable to contract. It is FDA-approved to treat crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles.. Furthermore, patients who have experienced facial soft tissue trauma or nerve injury, asymmetries of the face may be camouflaged with use of botox.
Botox may also be used to treat bruxism, TMJ. Botox injection leads to paralysis, and subsequent muscle wasting, thus minimizing the muscle bulk. This can decrease the width of the jaw and result in a more feminine appearance. The effects of botox lasts 3-4 months and may be repeated as often as needed.
Before receiving Botox, patients will need to refrain from applying makeup, blood-thinning medications, alcohol, NSAIDs, aspirin and ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E supplements, as these can increase your chances of bruising and bleeding during your treatment. Your treatment typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes but could be longer. Pictures are taken before your treatment to document the changes from your treatment.
